Nova Gorica
Greening for repurposing: climate mitigation and adaptation roadmap
THE CONTEXT
By reducing its carbon footprint, Nova Gorica aims to become a low-carbon city adapted to climate change with a focus on sustainable use of the space and positive environmental effects.
INTERVENTION AREA
The area is located next to the Koren watercourse, a green area with a strong biodiversity between the Panovec city forest and the city of Nova Gorica.
TARGET GROUPS
Human target groups: refugees, immigrants and minorities, undereducated population, elderly and kids/teenagers.
Non-human target groups: bats, birds and bees, among other autochthonous species. The plan foresees an animal farm to approach youngsters to domestic animals such as hens, donkeys or pigs.
PLANS
The pilot aims to develop circular strategies with a collaborative perspective for the Panovec city forest in order to improve its ecological and functional use. Open-air structures with terrain movements designed with green elements will help increase biodiversity and social cohesiveness.
In addition, a community cultural vegetable garden and kitchen will be deployed in order to integrate immigrants, activate elderly people and serve as an education point for kids.
PARTNERS
Pilot coordinated by the University of Nova Gorica and the Municipality of Nova Gorica.
