Reykjavik
Education and regeneration at the frontline of the city
THE CONTEXT
The city has a strong commitment to addressing climate change adaptation, achieving full carbon-neutrality by 2040 by using nature-based approaches and public engagement, among other strategies.
INTERVENTION AREA
The pilot is located in the Upper Breiðholt neighbourhood which has a high proportion of social housing and immigrant population.
TARGET GROUPS
Human target groups: students, elderly, unemployed persons and migrants.
Non-human target groups: autochthonous species, non-autochthonous flora coming from the immigrant countries.
PLANS
The project aims to create edible gardens with educational and community-centred purposes. Urban community vegetable gardens will be identified in order to map spaces that need improvement and regeneration.
All this with the idea of creating an Eco Village in the neighbourhood that will enhance greening activities with social integration and inclusivity.
PARTNERS
Pilot coordinated by Fjolbrautaskolinn I Breidholti, Fab Lab Reykjavik and the City of Reykjavik & South Centre.
