One Health approach for re-greening cities
By LAND & Ideas for Change
The concept of "One Health," initiated by the World Health Organization, is reshaping how we view urban spaces by linking human, animal, and environmental health. This interconnected approach emphasizes that a city’s livability is bound to the health of its ecosystems. In line with GreenInCities' mission, this perspective supports using Nature-based Solutions (NbS) to address urban challenges, such as mitigating extreme weather and promoting inclusive, green urban spaces.
By implementing One Health, GreenInCities collaborates with urban planners, ecologists, and public health experts to integrate biodiversity, foster local food production, and design green spaces that reduce urban heat and improve air quality. This latest article from NetworkNature, written collaboratively by GreenInCities partners from LAND and Ideas for Change, delves into the One Health approach—an essential framework that aligns with our project’s mission to enhance urban green spaces and boost ecosystem services for all.
